Zilpa Oduor is a dedicated Albany resident with a passion for helping refugees and immigrants in her community. Originally from Kenya, East Africa, she has called Albany home for the past 14 years and is a proud alumna of Albany High School.
Zilpa previously worked as the Coordinator of Employment Services at the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, where she connected refugees and clients to employment opportunities in the capital region. During this time, she developed a deep appreciation for the work done by organizations like RISSE, with whom she first interacted during her tenure at USCRI.
In addition to her professional experience, Zilpa has also demonstrated a commitment to personal growth and community service. She participated in the Community Foundation of the Greater Capital Region's Catalysts for Change leadership development program, which prepared her for board membership roles. She also holds a Bachelor's degree in International Relations-Economics and Africana Studies from Wellesley College, where she spent time in Rwanda studying post-genocide restoration.
Zilpa's fluency in English, Swahili, and Dholuo has allowed her to build strong relationships with members of the Albany community and beyond. Currently, she works as a Project Manager in International Development at Abt Associates, where she continues to use her skills to make a positive impact in the world.
